“Our topics are sometimes hard to express. Talk Science to Me helps us find simple words and position them in a way everyone can understand.”

-Jean-Jacques Frenette

Eve Rickert has worked with the Université du Québec since 2008 as a stylistic and copy editor for Jean-Jacques Frenette, a French-speaking scientist. Eve’s role has been to edit his papers before he submits them to journals and help him express his research in clear, accessible English.

While science is a universal language, the mediums by which we communicate scientific understanding are not. When presenting your findings to a population that may have a different first language from you, it’s imperative that your translator is fluent not only in the jargon of your field, but also in the syntax and idioms separating your language from theirs.

Having a strong understanding of how scientific research is conducted gives us a clear advantage-we are able to send a list of queries, flag areas that may require clarification and ask the scientist questions another editor may not pick up on.

Our eye for bring coherence to the chaos of reconciling French intent with English understanding make us a perfect fit for scientists like Jean-Jacques.
