Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) is a government-owned corporation that provides Canadians with information on housing policy and housing research, as well as services such as mortgage loan insurance. In 2014, Talk Science to Me was awarded a contract to periodically update three CMHC documents: Your Guide to Renting a Home, Guide to Co-operative Housing and Condominium Buyer’s Guide. These documents provide practical advice, legal information and lists of resources.

This project involved two separate tasks for each round of updates. First, we did a substantive update of the content in each document, carrying out extensive legal research into housing legislation across Canada and determining how those changes affected the content of the guides. Secondly, we ensured that all links and contact information in the guides were relevant and accurate, down to the last hyperlink and phone number.

After the update was completed, Talk Science to Me handled online queries submitted by the public regarding questions about the guides, and we recommended changes to the guides accordingly.

Government informational resources, like the body of scientific knowledge, are living documents. They have to be; people are not a static state. As factors and circumstances affecting people change, the research and resources of government agencies must be continuously updated.
